Spinach Salad with Sardine Dressing

I’ve got a sardine lover in the family… but the other kid is majorly squicked by them. I won’t pretend she loved this, but it wasn’t reviled.

Fish Soup Our Kids Love

Fish Soup with Cumin

Fish Soup with Cumin

Lately I’ve been getting pretty frustrated with trying to feed my kids. They’ve been avoiding their broth! When we first went on GAPS over a year ago they agreed to eat the soup and did grow to like it. But now that they are on the Full GAPS diet and doing fine, it’s easy for us to let the stock slide. The less they eat of it, the less they want. I can always get them to eat it by including tomatoes, but with Jupiter’s joint issues I don’t like to feed him nightshades all the … Continue reading Fish Soup Our Kids Love

Manhattan Clam Chowder for GAPS

GAPS Legal Manhattan Clam Chowder

GAPS Legal Manhattan Clam Chowder

One of Kelsy’s coworkers gave her some beautiful clams the other day. They were fresh from the ocean sands, but already shucked and cleaned for me! (For some reason I forgot to take a picture of them. Sorry about that!) While our family has gone mussel hunting before, I haven’t had clams this fresh since I was a child. These were a real treat and I didn’t want to mess them up!

But a creamy chowder full of potatoes is not a GAPS friendly dish! Since we’ve introduced tomatoes with no problem and had some … Continue reading Manhattan Clam Chowder for GAPS

Salmon Cakes Two Ways

Baked salmon cakes with sauerkraut and horseradish sauce

Kelsy told me she was in the mood for salmon cakes, and a few days later she brought home some canned wild-caught salmon. I know a hint when I see one!

I needed to make something on the stovetop since our oven is broken, so it was a good night for something like this. I found a recipe from Everyday Paleo, and another from Real Food Freaks, but as usual didn’t have everything on hand, so I had to improvise a bit.

Almond Crusted Salmon with mushrooms and spinach

Oh, boy, are you in for a treat!!! This salmon turned out amazing, despite the fact that I forgot my bake element is broken when I planned to make it, so instead of properly baking it, I had to babysit the broiler!

When making any salmon dish, remember to choose wild caught salmon only! You do not want farmed salmon for a number of very good health & environmental reasons!

Broiled Lemon Basil Salmon, Probiotic Carrot & Beet Salad, and Avocado

I love salmon. It’s full of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, and adds beautiful color and flavor to the plate. It’s also quick and easy to make… This whole meal took a total of 15 minutes to make – prep and cook time included! If you can’t get wild caught salmon in your area, you can order it from Vital Choice.

If you hadn’t already noticed, I’ve been starting to blog more recipes. Unfortunately, I’m not as good as Kelsy is at nailing down quantities. Take all my quantities as … Continue reading Broiled Lemon-Basil Salmon

Salmon with green beans and mushrooms

Salmon with green beans and mushrooms

Salmon is one of those things that’s pretty hard to screw up. If you have a good quality fillet and don’t overcook it, you can’t go wrong. Even so, I decided to get a little fancy this time.

You don’t have to go to an expensive natural food store to get wild caught salmon. You can order it online from Vital Choice or watch the sales for good prices. You can buy a whole salmon and cut it up into steaks and fillets for later. It freezes well!
